Bariloche, Cerro Catedral & Lake Nahuel Huapi

Bariloche is a favorite destination for both domestic and international tourists due to breathtaking landscapes of lakes and mountains, world-class hotels and the Cerro Catedral ski resort.(see pictures). It is also a favorite destination for high school graduation trips, keep that in mind when booking hotels in Bariloche, as they get very loud and noisy at night.

It is difficult to separate Bariloche from The Nahuel Huapi National Park, as both have grown and developed together with the hard work of remarkable Argentine pioneers (Perito Moreno among others) and of German and Swiss immigrants who settled here in the last century.

Cerro Catedral is one of South America´s most popular ski resorts, especially among families and teenagers. The center is located 19 kmts from Bariloche and offers 53 trails (mostly intermediate) hotels and recreation facilities.

Surrounding Bariloche, there are several spots and villages worth visiting. Llao-Llao is located in the union of the Perito Moreno and Nahuel Huapi Lakes. Do not miss the famous international Llao Llao Hotel and the nearby San Eduardo chapel.

Puerto Pañuelo, Colonia Suiza and Villa Tacul are customary visits at a short distance, less than 30 kmts from Bariloche. (see map )

Bariloche Hotels, Resorts & Cottages

Bariloche Hotels are mostly located downtown and the offering includes a few 4 and 5-star hotels and many 3-star hotels and cottages.

Bariloche resorts are located in Llao Llao (25 kmts) and Arelauquen (15 kmts). Both offer golf, spa, health center and recreation. (see travel packages)

Bariloche cottages & inns are located by the shores of lake Nahuel Huapi, along Bustillo & Pioneros Avenues. They are cozy, small complexes, often family-owned and with limited services.

When booking hotels in Bariloche keep in mind that high school students stay downtown. If you are looking for a quiet atmosphere, your best option is to stay in a cottage or inn outside town. (see customer reviews)

Bariloche Tours

Bariloche tours are oriented to contemplation of mountains & lakes.

Circuito Chico is a half-day ground tour which goes along the shores of lake Nahuel Huapi.

Isla Victoria, Bosque de Arrayanes & Puerto Blest are full day boat tours which sail off Puerto Pañuelo, near the Llao Llao Hotel

Close to Bariloche there are several places worth visiting: Colonia Suiza, Arelauquen, Villa la Angostura, Villa Traful, Lago Puelo. (see pictures)

Bariloche Car Rental, Airport Transfer & Transportation

Bariloche Car Rental is an excellent option for travelers staying at least 3 days in the area, as most tourist places are located within 1 hr driving from downtown Bariloche.

Car rental options include limited or free mileage. As a rule of thumb you will be driving an average of 400 km per day, so be sure to calculate costs with both options.

Airport Transfer in Bariloche can be booked in advance or at the airport lobby. There are also regular services connecting the Bariloche airport with Villa la Angostura, San Martin de los Andes and Lago Puelo.

Bariloche has daily flights to Buenos Aires, Cordoba & Neuquen, and on-demand flights to Trelew & El Calafate.

Tourist Information in Bariloche

The Secretariat of Tourism has offices downtown, near Centro Cívico. Although with limited working hours, they provide information about Bariloche hotels, prices, tours and attractions.
